About StarOne

Why StarOne charges drivers a flat subscription instead of taking a commission, and what that changes for customers, drivers and restaurants.

StarOne is a delivery platform built on a simple idea: the person who does the work should be paid for the work, and the person paying should know exactly what they are paying for.

The problem we are solving

Traditional delivery apps sit between you and your driver and take a cut of everything that passes through. The restaurant pays a commission of 20–30% on every order. The customer pays inflated menu prices, a service fee, a delivery fee and a suggested tip. The driver is paid an opaque per-job rate calculated by a formula nobody outside the company has ever seen.

Everybody in that arrangement is worse off except the platform. We thought it was worth building the other one.

How StarOne is different

StarOne is a technology platform, not a middleman. We charge drivers a flat subscription to appear on the platform, and that is the whole of our revenue. We take no commission on any delivery, which means we have no reason to inflate a price, obscure a fee, or take a larger share when a delivery happens to be worth more.

Because we are not in the middle of the transaction, three things follow:

  • You choose your driver. We show you who is nearby, how far away they are, what they drive and how other customers have rated them. Nobody is assigned to you by an algorithm.
  • You speak to them directly. Their phone number is on the listing. You agree the job between yourselves.
  • Drivers are paid transparently. $1 per kilometre, with a minimum $7 fee for deliveries under 5 km, paid directly by the customer to the driver. No formula, no surge, no deductions.

What we actually do

StarOne verifies drivers, shows you the ones near you, and keeps the record of what happened. Specifically:

  • Verification. Every driver uploads a licence, vehicle details and insurance. A person at StarOne reviews the documents and approves or rejects them. Nobody appears in a search until they have passed.
  • Proximity. Drivers who are online report their position, and we group them by how far they are from your pickup point — so you are never shown somebody who cannot realistically reach you.
  • Status. Accepted, picked up, in transit, delivered. Each change is recorded with a time, so there is a shared account of what happened rather than two competing memories.
  • Ratings. Only from customers who completed an order with that driver. They stay on the listing.
  • Support. A real ticket with a reference number, answered by a person.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not process delivery payments. What you pay your driver is between you and your driver. This is not a gap we intend to close: the moment a platform holds the money, it starts deciding how much of it to keep.

We do not set delivery prices beyond publishing the rate drivers work to. We do not rank drivers by what they pay us — the ordering is distance, and only distance. We do not sell personal information, and we have no advertising business that would give us a reason to start.

Where we operate

StarOne covers major population centres in all ten provinces and all three territories, and we add cities as drivers join them. If we do not cover your area yet, the fastest way to change that is for a driver near you to sign up.

Who we are

StarOne is operated in Canada and built for Canadian conditions — provincial tax handled correctly on every invoice, PIPEDA-compliant handling of personal information, and CASL-compliant email. We are a small team, we answer our own support tickets, and we would rather be told plainly when something is wrong.
